Diane Pays the Bills
All of my blues are gone today; I'm finally in the clear.
I've finished paying this month's bills and none are in arrears.
There's five more check left in the book, but that's still not the best.
I've tallied up the balance, and there's thirty-six dollars left.
Chorus
Halleluiah, I can buy my lunch.
After all these years, we've been scrapping so much.
I paid my dues, and I've paid the rent.
And on the bottom line, it's not all spent.
It's
no lottery that saved my hide, we've simply persevered.
Only see movies at matinees and drink domestic beer.
Bake homemade bread when we have the chance,
share a ride on the way to work.
Go to concerts by working on the volunteer staff
and eat lots of beans and soup.
Repeat Chorus
