The Inland Privateer's Waltz

Terry Kelleher - 2001

Chorus:
     D                       G                D
From Otisco to Conesus we're the scourge of the Finger Lakes.
D                               A
Through the Erie to the Hudson leaving barges in our wake.
      G         D              A               Bm
From Niagara up to Plattsburg* the upstaters shake with fear.
          G               D            A         D
When in the lakes they see us rowing, we're the Inland Privateers.

*From Lakemont to Aurora
From Lodi to King Ferry
From Watkins Glen to Auburn

     Em                          Bm
As we push off from Canastota, making two knots to the west.
      Em                      A
Swiftly overtake a coal barge, pull up side and help ourselves.
      G             D          A            D
Twenty tons lies there before us, not a guard to fight us back.
    G             D             A              D
We take what we can carry, a hundred pounds in canvas sacks.

Repeat Chorus

Down Cayuga then to Lansing, where we sneak up on the docks.
Where the salt piles stand a waiting for their journey through the locks.
Our merry band ashore now, and we plunder as we may.
A winter's worth of rock salt, as we quickly steal away.

Repeat Chorus

Farther down to Ithaca, we stop at Bistro-Q.
A glass of wine at sunset, and some barbeque tofu.
Then we swiftly leave our table, and skip on board the deck.
With a round of pirate laughter, leave the waiter with the check.

Chorus - Repeat last two lines of chorus
